Society is creating ever more sophisticated, complex structures of economic systems and their model images in order to meet unceasing needs and desires. Such economic structures, or units, are often inefficient and unsustainable in their complexity. The research aim of the project is thus to make the functioning of such systems, and hence decision-making procedures, more efficient, and to propose their (re)design. The scientific research will, therefore, result in revised supply chains in the beverage industry sector, decision support procedures for (retail) investors, evaluation mechanism mediating the selection of a suitable electricity supplier, marginally then analysis of climate temperature change or a proposal for a more efficient betting market. The project team will thus face several analytical challenges, particularly on a wide range of topics shaped by the still prevailing inefficient and unsustainable behaviour, and often under conditions of adverse uncertainty. To do so, it will use game theory, decision theory, fuzzy set theory, simulation, genetic algorithms or neural networks. The social legacy of the project will thus contribute to the slowly turning trend towards more environmentally responsible behaviour.
